Raan Jay Fai (only street food that received a Michelin star in the WORLD)

There was so much hard work put into getting the reservations!  We had to book it three months ahead. My dad had to email, wait for them to write back and then Jay Fai broke her hand (or was it her finger?) and the restaurant closed for awhile.  Then, she posted on Instagram that they were open again but we had to email AGAIN to confirm our reservations. All that work! So much disappointment!

The restaurant is in Bangkok, Thailand. We were there for Spring Vacation as a stop before Maldives. Bangkok is a cool city.  It has amazing food like shrimp Pad Thai and street food everywhere.  There is also fresh fruit juice vendors who sell all kinds of juices like orange, passion fruit, pomegranate (so good!) and mango.  Tuk tuks (like a motorcycle with more seats which operates as a taxi) are a fun way to get around Bangkok because traffic is so bad there. Check it out!

Anyone in the mood for a little crocodile meat?

So, Jai Fai.

We had to show the email confirming our reservations when we got there.  It is not really a restaurant. It's like the size of a garage with some tables and chairs.  Her "kitchen" is about the size of a small sofa. The Drunken Noodles (thick noodles the size of fettuccine with vegetables and seafood), the Crab Omelet, and the Tom Yum soup are her specialty dishes.

For our appetizers, we decided to order the crab omelet and the prawns (with garlic because my dad and I love garlic).  The prawns tasted good but it cost 600 Baht! (19 US dollars) Only four prawns!  It was cooked with crispy garlic thrown on top.  But who knows if Jai Fai bought the garlic from a grocery store and tossed it on top or if she made it herself?  That remains a mystery.  What I mean is that there was nothing special about this dish.  And did you hear me people?  There were only 4 (!) prawns.

For our main courses, we selected the Drunken Noodles and the Tom Yum soup.  We got medium spicy for the tom yum soup OMG my face was turning red from spice! I took only two small sips from the soup!  And normally, I like spicy foods.  I can eat foods dipped in hot sauce but this was over my limit.  All I tasted was the spice.  This tom yum soup lacked the sweet and sour flavor it is supposed to have.

There was nothing special about the crab omelet.  It was crab wrapped in egg.  Even I can make that and I'm 9 years old!  Here it is again:

The drunken noodles were pretty good!  It was the best dish of the night.  By far.  It has very good flavor with soft noodles.  What does Jai Fai do to this dish that is not done to her other dishes? Because this is really good and the other dishes were just ok, nothing memorable.

Luckily, all of the food was served in proper temperature because our family is sensitive to it.  For example, my mom hates cold toast more than the devil.  She will send it back to the kitchen and complain.

I think that they gave the Michelin star for hard work, not for her cooking.

Do not get too excited before you go here!

You might agree with me if you try it.
